PDB-Def™

PDB-Def is a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool for creating and loading PDB (Palm™ Database) files for use in applications that run on Palm OS®-compatible devices. A few minutes with PDB-Def can save developers hours of effort when creating and populating PDB files and integrating them into Palm OS-compatible applications.

PDB-Def lets you:

• Define a database containing categories and integer, money, real, and character fields, and Pascal and C-style strings.
• Import tab-delimited data, including category assignments, into a PDB-Def database. Imported records can be merged with or appended to existing records.
• View the imported data for verification, and delete individual records.
• Access the records in a PDB-Def database using a C language record structure that can be created by PDB-Def.

PDB-Def includes PDBDFLib, a set of utility functions, with CodeWarrior R7-compatible C source code, for accessing strings in records quickly and easily from a C program, converting between binary and displayable data formats, and setting and retrieving fields on Palm application forms. This CodeWarrior-compatible static library makes it very easy to integrate PDB-Def databases into Palm applications.

PDB-Def is a Palm OS-compatible application. When running on a Palm device, you import data from a Memo. When running under POSE, you can import from a desktop file or a Memo. You can define and populate very large databases when using PDB-Def on a desktop system.

PDB-Def requires Palm OS 3.5. PDB-Def databases can be used on any Palm device with OS 3.1 or greater. The demo version, which only works with one database and a limited number of fields and records, can be downloaded at no charge.
